At the heart of Pontarddulais Canolfan y Bont community hub provides educational courses, life-skill classes and has excellent IT facilities with access to the internet and free wi-fi availability. It also offers a friendly coffee shop, Café Canolfan and a charity shop, both of which help towards the sustainability of the Centre.
2016 was a time of considerable change for the Centre and the Partnership as a whole as our main grant funding came to an end. To help with our ongoing fundraising we now have a Charity Shop ‘Second Chance’ and a coffee shop, Café Canolfan which both help to generate income to sustain our work within the community. The charity shop offers a facility for people to recycle their clothes and clothing accessories and pick up some new bargains along the way. Café Canolfan has been set up to support people with learning disabilities, and we are very proud of their progress in setting up the venture and in running it on a day-to-day basis. Both ventures are proving very very successful with a greater number of people visiting the Centre to make use of the facilities offered.
The Centre continues to provide a variety of fully equipped meeting rooms for hire, with disabled access and facilities. Most rooms are powerpoint ready with projectors available and can be used for video and DVD presentations. We have a total of 5 rooms available in various styles from 2 to 40 delegates including a large, newly-equipped computer suite. Catering is available by request and a public car-park is available approximately 400 metres from the Centre.
The Pontarddulais Partnership have their office base on the ground floor of the venue and County Councillors Jane Harris and Phil Downing hold surgeries at the Centre on the second and fourth Friday of each month.
As 2017 progresses, our Development Manager will seek further funding to increase and modernise our existing facilities, enabling us to expand our service to the public and private sector, as well as the local community.
Meet the Staff…..
We pride ourselves in having friendly and approachable staff and volunteers who are always happy to help.
Catherine Harris is the Development Manager for the Partnership and is responsible for the overall management of Canolfan Y Bont. She works with the trustees of the Pontarddulais Partnership to ensure that the aims and objectives of the organisation are being met. Part of her role is the planning of training and skills provision at the Centre, developing new initiatives and networking with all the education and training providers in the Swansea and surrounding areas.
Catherine is supported by an army of volunteers who help to keep the Centre running on a day to day basis.
